SHORT BUT SWEET                WRITING LESSONS

Each video ends with a suggestion for a brief writing prompt. I'd love for students who complete the prompt to send it in. I'll post some of the ones I like the best.

VIDEO #1: Using the 5 Sense In this brief video Diana shares how including the five senses in your writing creates vivid images for the writer. A short writing prompt is included.

Write a paragraph describing a special place, and make sure to include the five senses while doing so. Draw a picture of what you wrote.

VIDEO #2: Show Don’t Tell. We often read about how a characters feels in certain situations. They may be happy, angry,  frightened, or something else completely. My charaters often see ghosts, so I have to decribe how they feel when they're scared. In this lesson, I explain how to improve your writing by showing the way your character feels instead of just telling about it.

Describe a brief situation using Show Don't Tell. Illustrate the scene.

VIDEO #3 Adding Interesting details. Authors make their writing come alive by adding specific details. In this lesson you will learn the sort of details I like to include in my writing and what sort of details you can add to your own work.

Write a paragraph describing a person or place. Make sure to include at least three special details. while doing so. Draw a picture describing what you wrote.
