Writing Lessons

Video #2 Show Don't Tell

We often read about how a characters feels in certain situations. They may be happy, angry, frightened, or something else completely. My characters often see ghosts, so I have to describe how they feel when they're scared. In this lesson, I explain how to improve your writing by showing the way your character feels instead of just telling about it.

Prompt: Describe a brief situation using Show Don't Tell. Illustrate the scene.

Video #3 Adding Interesting Details

Authors make their writing come alive by adding specific details. In this lesson you will learn the sort of details I like to include in my writing and what sort of details you can add to your own work.

Prompt: Write a paragraph describing a person or place. Make sure to include at least three special details. Draw a picture describing what you wrote.
